Dear Parents,

Welcome to River Eves!  I realize that many of you have questions; therefore, I have attempted to address some of them in this letter.  If your question or concern is not answered in this letter, please feel free to contact me at rebeccaray@limedot.com or simply send me a note.

I look forward to getting to know each of you and having a wonderful school year with your children.

                                                                        Warm Regards,

                                                                        Mrs. Rebecca Ray

PS

I am pleased to announce that we have a new class website.  This site will help keep you informed of things going on in our class and help to reinforce the skills we are working on.  I am still working on parts of the site, but it is up and running.  Please visit the site and see what’s happening in our room.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL:

School begins promptly at 7:50am and ends at 2:20pm.  Students are tardy if they are not in their classroom by the 7:50 bell.  If your child is changing the means of transportation or time of dismissal, please send a note.  When your child is absent, please send a note when he/she returns explaining the absence.

LUNCH (11:17-11:47)

Lunch is $1.35 for all students.  Lunch may be purchased on a daily basis, but we encourage you send a check for two to four weeks and an account will be set up for your child.  If you would like to meet your child for lunch, River Eves offers a guest dining room.  Please ask one of the lunch aides to direct you to it.

SPECIALS:  (8:50-9:35)

Monday- PE

Tuesday- No Break

Wednesday- Music

Thursday- PE

Friday- Art

DISCIPLINE:

It is very important for your child to behave in class.  Students are required to abide by the four school standards.  Discipline will be handed out in accordance to school policy for Second Grade.

CLOTHING:

Please keep in mind that we do have an optional uniform for our students.  Although it is not mandatory, it is highly encouraged.

HOMEWORK:
The most important thing to remember about homework is that it is 30-40 minutes a day that you and your child sit down and work together. Homework should be corrected by you and initialed by you.  It is due the day after it is assigned.  Any child who does not turn in homework on time will be given a conduct slip.  If the homework is turned in the following day, the conduct slip will be torn up.

PROGRESS REPORTS:

They will be sent home every nine weeks.  Students’ work folders will be sent home bi-weekly (usually on Friday). Please sign and return the following school day.

BIRTHDAYS:

You are welcome to send in a special birthday treat for snack time.  Please be sure it is easy to pass out and there is enough for 21 students.  Please refrain from distributing birthday invitations in school.  A student directory may be purchased from the P.T.A.

Scholastic Book/Software Clubs:

Scholastic Book Orders will be sent home every two-four weeks.  They offer a wide variety of reading subjects and book prices start as low as $0.50!  Each order that is placed earns our class bonus points towards books and other classroom materials.

SNACK BREAK: (9:35 am)

Because our instructional time is so valuable in Second Grade, we have group snack.  This eliminates the need to interrupt class time for students to get up and get their snack (snack comes to them).  It also eliminates the need to see/ask what another child has packed for snack and the desire to trade snacks.  For all parents who do not have a child with a food allergy, I ask that each of you sign up to send in at least 2 weeks’ worth of snack.  This will ensure that all students have snack each day.  If you can sign up for more than 2 weeks, that would be most appreciated.  J

I can not stress enough that individual snacks work the best.  They take less time to pass out and each child gets the same amount of food.

I also ask that you to send in a capped water bottle for your child to use throughout the day.

FOOD ALLERGIES:

If your child has a food allergy, I ask that you send in a daily snack for him/her.  This will help ensure that your child does not accidentally consume a food that he/she is allergic to.  For this reason, please do not feel the need to send in snack for the class.
